This fall, the John H. Pace, Jr. ’39 Center for Civic Engagement welcomed Emily Sharples as the Class of 1969 Princeton Internships in Civic Service (PICS) Program Director. In this role, she works to build partnerships with community partners, undergraduate students, and colleagues across Princeton University with a focus on connecting service and learning throughout the larger Princeton ecosystem.

“Joining the Pace Center, and working with the amazing alumni dedicated to PICS, has further cemented my dedication to public and civic service,” she said. “I look forward to fostering and aiding in the growth of PICS in the years to come.”

PICS is an alumni-founded program with the Pace Center that provides Princeton undergraduates paid summer internships in nonprofit and civic-oriented organizations. Each year, PICS offers more than 200 opportunities across a wide range of civic service fields - from government and medicine, to social services and entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining the Pace Center, Sharples served in the School of Public and International Affairs as assistant director in the graduate program, where she focused on career development and alumni relations. She has spent the entirety of her career in higher education, having worked at Duke University’s School of Law before coming to Princeton. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and a Masters of Education in higher education administration from North Carolina State University.
