The Trenton Youth Orchestra is a string orchestra composed of students from the neighboring city of Trenton. We hold weekly rehearsals during which members work under the instruction of our Princeton student coaches, both in sectionals and in ensemble work, to hone their string technique and to develop an understanding of the many nuances of collaborative performance. We offer free weekly private lessons to TYO members, as well as occasional field trips and workshops. At the end of every semester, we hold a concert in Rockefeller College Common Room, and in the past, we've performed in collaboration with members of the Princeton University Orchestra, Sinfonia, and Glee Club. Our mission is to provide young musicians with an opportunity to cultivate their musical knowledge base through studying with accomplished Princeton student musicians, performing music in a collaborative and interactive setting, and reinforcing self-esteem through artistic and personal growth.
Princeton students can get involved in one of two roles: 1) private teaching, which entails giving weekly one-hour private lessons to a TYO member, or 2) coaching, which entails attending every other rehearsal, leading sectionals, and private teaching one member.
When: Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm
Where: Woolworth Music Building 102
If you are interested in getting involved as a coach or private teacher, email Project Leader Lou Chen '19 at firstname.lastname@example.org.
