Project: PFARS (Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad)
Project Leaders: Carolina Pavlik ([email protected]) and Virginia Cobbs ([email protected])
Community Partner: PFARS (Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad)
Project Description: Volunteers can apply to become an EMT at PFARS. Once accepted, volunteers become junior members when they will ride on the ambulance as an assistant/shadow to two senior members. During this time, volunteers will also complete training modules (which can be done during downtime on shifts) and EMT class. After passing their junior member checkout test and the NREMT, volunteers will be promoted to senior members when they will ride on the ambulance, assisting patients alongside other senior members.
**Volunteers will receive Lyft Passes to get to and from the PFARS station. PFARS will reimburse volunteers for uniform and EMT class expenses once they pass their junior member checkout test. Options are available for students needing financial assistance.
Frequency/Time Commitment Expected (as specific as possible): Volunteers will self-schedule shifts for 32 hours per month. Volunteers must attend the majority of monthly meetings, which are held on the second Monday of each month at 7pm. EMT class must also be completed for which there are several options (MCCC EMT Hybrid Course is one possibility). These classes typically last between 2 and 4 months for around 15 hours of class per week with additional assignments and studying to be completed independently.
