What is the deadline for RISE applications?

Student applications for RISE 2024 will open on December 4, 2024 and close on January 8, 2025.

What is the process after my application is submitted? (for students)

After your applications are submitted, Pace staff will review them (both for students and partners). We have student interview slots scheduled for mid-January. After we complete those interviews we will begin proposing matches to partners.

  • Mid to late January : Interviews with host organizations
  • Early to mid February - If you are offered a RISE position at an organization, you will receive an offer letter and have one week to accept or decline.
  • Early March - if some positions are unfilled, we will run a second round of applications

For second or third-round spring applicants, we will generally be in touch to discuss which positions are still available and work directly with you and the organization to arrange a match. Organizations will then arrange an interview with the candidate before accepting or declining the RISE match.

Who can apply to the RISE program?

Any enrolled, non-matriculating Princeton undergraduate student may apply to be a RISE fellow (rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors). This includes previous RISE fellows. The RISE program is open to all eligible participants, regardless of identity, beliefs, or other protected characteristics.

For host organizations applying to work with a RISE intern, we cannot guarantee that you will receive applicants and/or that applicants will accept the position. Similarly, students should know that we cannot guarantee a RISE internship placement for all candidates who apply.

Will Princeton RISE internships take place in person for summer, 2025? Will RISE Interns have an onsite work station?

The majority of RISE projects will be in person or hybrid for summer 2025, though select placements are remote.

If the internship is remote, our expectation is that the intern will have the similar accommodations as employees of our partner organizations.

How much of a time commitment is a Princeton RISE internship?

The commitment to Princeton RISE is 40 hours per week. Undergraduate students taking part in Princeton RISE are expected to spend 35 hours on Princeton RISE partner projects and 5 hours per week on Princeton RISE programming. This programming will include peer-led training, reflection, and guided conversation with other Princeton RISE fellows.

All Princeton RISE internships will run for eight weeks, specifically from June 9, 2025 to August 1, 2025.

In addition, Princeton RISE fellows are required to participate in orientation, a mid-program survey, and an end-program survey. Princeton RISE fellows must submit a capstone reflection about their experience (for example: blog post, short video, or art piece) by August 31, 2025 and attend the mid-September Experiential Learning Symposium.

How many hours a week should supervisors expect to work with their RISE Fellows?

The fellow commitment to RISE is for a total of 40 hours/week: RISE projects with partners will be 35 hours/week; RISE programming that includes training, reflection and guided conversation with peers will be 5 hours/week for all fellows. While weekly hands-on time might vary from position to position, we would expect that RISE fellows spend 2-4 hours a week in supervision, building context, mentorship, and training. This need not only happen with their supervisor as we would encourage partners to expose RISE Fellows to as much of their organizations as makes sense and is possible in the eight week time frame.

Can I choose the Princeton RISE partner I want to work with?

This year, RISE fellows can apply directly to positions listed by host organizations. We cannot guarantee that you will be offered a position if you apply. Late-round applicants should come in for advising and sometimes propose matches based on organization and student interest matches.

When will the Princeton RISE projects take place?

All Princeton RISE grant projects will run for eight weeks, specifically from June 9, 2025 to August 1, 2025.

In addition, Princeton RISE fellows  participate in a mid-September Experiential Learning Symposium.

What compensation will a RISE fellow receive and when should I expect to receive it?

RISE interns will receive a stipend of $700/week for in-person internships ($650 for fully remote). Princeton University will provide the full stipend amount with no contribution needed from our partner organizations. This stipend is not intended as pay and should be used to offset travel, housing and food costs for the summer.

RISE interns will also receive mentorship from staff and peers, books, materials, training, reflection and guided conversation.

The stipend will be administered in full prior to your start date of June 9.

Will I be able to balance an internship or class along with a RISE Fellowship?

No. Since RISE fellowships are full-time positions we do not allow fellows to take on other internships or classes.

Can organizations submit more than one application or project proposal?

Organizations are welcome to apply to host up to three interns. However, if doing so we would encourage you to indicate which one position would be the highest priority for your organization as we anticipate receiving quite a few applications and cannot guarantee placements.

How are RISE Interns chosen? What is the interview process like?

After submitting an application, students may hear from organizations about an interview or they may hear from Pace Center staff if the organization accepts a match. Organizations will have two weeks to review application materials and interview the student applicant directly after they receive a list of applicants. Offers for official placements will come directly from Pace Center staff to the student.

How can my organization apply to host a RISE intern?
