Limited RISE grants are still available and the RISE Program is accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate students on a rolling basis until March 20, 2023. Students can apply at: https://fs6.formsite.com/pace/fym3ctujgx/index
The application deadline for Princeton University campus and community partners to submit an application to host a Princeton RISE fellow for the summer of 2023 has now passed.

After your applications are submitted, Pace staff will review them (both for students and partners). We have student interview slots scheduled for the week of January 16-20. After we complete those interviews we will begin proposing matches to partners.
- Early to mid January: On campus interviews with student applicants and Pace staff
- Mid to late January - Pace staff will send out proposed matches to partners. Partners will have a week from the time of the proposal to review the match, schedule their own interview with the student and accept or decline the match. Partners have no obligation to accept a proposed match, but due to a limited application pool, we cannot guarantee that another match will be made with that partner.
- Early to mid February - Pace staff will present matches accepted by partners to the student as an official offer. Students have one week from the time of the offer to accept or decline the internship.
For late-round spring applicants, we will generally be in touch to discuss which positions are still available and work directly with you and the organization to arrange a match. Organizations will then arrange an interview with the candidate before accepting or declining the RISE match.

Any enrolled, non-matriculating Princeton student may apply to be a RISE fellow. This includes previous RISE fellows and graduate students. Additionally, Princeton University undergraduate and graduate students who participated in Princeton RISE in the past are welcome to apply again. However, we cannot guarantee that previous RISE fellows will receive a placement or be placed with the organizations they worked with last summer. Similarly, any non-profit may apply to host a RISE fellow including campus and community partners who hosted a Princeton RISE fellow in the past. Again, we cannot guarantee host organizations will be selected if they apply.

The majority of RISE projects will be in person for summer 2023, though we may accept some hybrid or fully remote options on a limited basis.
If the internship is remote, our expectation is that the intern will have the similar accommodations as employees of our partner organizations.

The commitment to Princeton RISE is 40 hours per week. Undergraduate and graduate students taking part in Princeton RISE are expected to spend 35 hours on Princeton RISE partner projects and 5 hours per week on Princeton RISE programming. This programming will include peer-led training, reflection, and guided conversation with other Princeton RISE fellows.
All Princeton RISE internships will run for eight weeks, specifically from June 13, 2023 to August 5, 2023.
In addition, Princeton RISE fellows are required to participate in orientation, a mid-program survey, and an end-program survey. Princeton RISE fellows must participate in an online symposium around the end of Aug 2023 and submit a reflection about their experience (for example: blog post, short video, or art piece) by August 31, 2023.

The fellow commitment to RISE is for a total of 40 hours/week: RISE projects with partners will be 35 hours/week; RISE programming that includes training, reflection and guided conversation with peers will be 5 hours/week for all fellows. While weekly hands-on time might vary from position to position, we would expect that RISE fellows spend 2-4 hours a week in supervision, building context, mentorship, and training. This need not only happen with their supervisor as we would encourage partners to expose RISE Fellows to as much of their organizations as makes sense and is possible in the eight week time frame.

Students and partners are applying separately to the Princeton RISE program. Pace Center staff will match students and partners according to topics, interests, and skills. That match will first be presented to the partner and if approved, student applicants will have the opportunity to accept or decline any match as well.

From Human and Civil Rights and the National Education Association:
Racial justice is the systematic fair treatment of people of all races, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes for all. Racial justice — or racial equity — goes beyond “anti-racism.” It is not just the absence of discrimination and inequities, but also the presence of deliberate systems and supports to achieve and sustain racial equity through proactive and preventative measures.

“To truly be antiracist is to be feminist. To truly be feminist is to be antiracist. We cannot be antiracist if we are homophobic or transphobic. All Black lives include those of poor transgender Black women, perhaps the most violated and oppressed of all the Black intersectional groups.” Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, How to Be an Anti-Racist
The Pace Center is excited to connect students and community partners who are dedicated to the struggle to end transphobia, homophobia, biphobia and all forms of injustice and stigma against the LGBTQIA+ community. In the summer of 2023 we hope to provide 15 internship placements that focus on queer justice. In the essence of Dr. Kendi’s quote, we remain committed to centering anti-racism, and see the movement for justice as intersectional. LGBTQIA+ people are part of every community. We are excited to add this new layer to RISE, as we aim to encourage students to more critically engage in deep dialogues about the roots of racism and the interconnected nature of all forms of oppression.

RISE interns will receive $600 a week for a total of 8 weeks, $4,800 grant. Princeton University will provide the full stipend amount with no contribution needed from our partner organizations. This stipend should be used to cover all travel, housing and food costs for the summer.
RISE interns will also receive mentorship from staff and peers, books, materials, training, reflection and guided conversation.
The $4,800 grant will be administered in full prior to your start date of June 13.

No. Since RISE fellowships are full-time positions we do not allow fellows to take on other internships or classes.
-
-
Organizations are welcome to submit as many applications as they would like. However, if doing so we would encourage you to indicate which one position would be the highest priority for your organization as we anticipate receiving quite a few applications and cannot guarantee placements.
-
-
After submitting an application, students will receive an invitation for an on-campus interview with Pace Center staff. Together with application materials, we will then create matches with RISE partner organizations. Organizations will have one week to review application materials and interview the student applicant directly after a match is proposed. Offers for official placements will come directly from Pace Center staff to the student.
