This Student Volunteers Council project is not active for Spring 2021.
The Meals on Wheels program at Princeton has two branches. The first branch has our volunteers deliver hot and cold meals to seniors around the area. The second branch, which is our main focus of the program this semester, has our volunteers visit our seniors once a week for one hour. During that time, students chat and do activities with the seniors such as knitting, coloring, or anything that both the student and the senior are interested in doing. Our meal delivery volunteers fill in as substitutes whenever regular Meals on Wheels volunteers can’t make it, and this is crucial because many of the seniors we work with are home-bound and depend on these meals. Our friendly visit program gives students and seniors the opportunity to build meaningful relationships, and it provides participants long conversations and interactions that aren’t possible when volunteers are dropping off food as part of a meal run.
