EMT Princeton

This project allows interested volunteers to become certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and volunteer for the local ambulance corps. EMTs have the opportunity to become an active member of the local rescue squad, treat patients and contribute to the local community. EMTs with Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad are on duty to respond to emergency calls a minimum of 24 hours per month in addition to committing extensive time to additional training, continuing education and required drills. The SVC provides transportation to and from training sessions. (Note that there are two SVC EMT projects. Both involve becoming a state-certified New Jersey EMT and volunteering in the 911 system. The projects are equivalent except that PFARS serves Princeton Borough, Township and University and Twin W serves West Windsor [Princeton Junction].)

That moment took me away from the theory and rhetoric and politics of education reform and put me squarely in the middle of the lives of people who are most affected by the achievement gap.
